Landaco Equipment has its origins in the broad acre farming regions of South West New South Wales. Norman Connor was a farmer who established an agricultural machinery sales business, and saw the need to improve on existing designs of Fertiliser Spreaders. Norms' son, Peter, joined the business in 1985, and also operated a contract fertiliser spreading business. As the contracting business grew and services were expanded to other areas, the limitations of spreading equipment in the market became evident, so Norm turned his mind toward designing a more efficient fertiliser spreader than those generally on the market. As a design engineer with skills in welding and computer drafting, Norm designed a prototype, which dispensed with chain distributors and numerous other ungainly components and replaced them with a belt driven spreader, hydraulic spinners, and sleek uncluttered lines. The design used today had its genesis in the 1980's machines, which were tested under the heavy demands of the contract Fertiliser Spreading business. Peter Connor has spent his entire career in the spreading industry, and has inherited some of his fathers' design and engineering skills. Peter is now Managing Director of Landaco Equipment. The Contract Spreading Business still operates, and few people have the industry knowledge from hands-on experience as the Connor family. Contractors around Australia use Landaco spreaders, as they have proven to be efficient, reliable machines requiring very low maintenance. As production for the Landaco spreader increased to meet demands, it was necessary to outsource some of the production, but with time, it became evident that a move to a larger centre with greater control over production from their own factory would be a necessary next step. In 1997 the Company moved to Wagga Wagga, in southern New South Wales. Wagga Wagga is a major Regional City located approximately halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, with a population of 56,000, and servicing the greater Riverina Region with a combined population in the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division of 148,737. Wagga Wagga has excellent infrastructure including Charles Sturt University, Riverina TAFE College, numerous Government Departments, and covers an area of 4886 square kilometres. With a stable and pleasant climate, the region is centrally located in some of the finest wheat and sheep country in Australia. As a region providing rural services to the Riverina, Wagga Wagga has proven an ideal location for Landaco Equipment to continue to develop, manufacture and market agricultural machinery, and from which to expand their customer and dealer networks around Australia.
